PURPOSE: A composition for preventing or treating hyperlipidemia, fatty liver or obesity is provided to reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and leptin value. CONSTITUTION: A composition for preventing or treating hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, cardiovascular diseases or obesity contains a compound of general formula I(S-(MS)p-(MS)q) as an active ingredient. In general formula I, S is sialic acid, and (MS)p or (MS)q are independently monosaccharide residue. The compound of general formula I is sialylactose. The sialylactose is α-NeuNAc-(2→3)-β-D-Gal-(1→4)-D-Glc or α-NeuNAc-(2→6)-β-D-Gal-(1→4)-D-Glc. Cardiovascular diseases are hypertension, hard feces, coronary artery disease, blood tumor, artery scleroma, atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction, embolism, stroke, atherosclerosis or thrombosis. The composition is used in the form of solution, suspension, syrup, emulsion, liposome, powder, granule, tablet, sustained-release formulation, or capsule.
