The window has a mesh screen that allows full ventilation for the car but prevents vehicles occupants being thrown from the vehicle in the event of a sideways on collision. The mesh is fixed in the door frame and covers the window when the latter is open. The ends of the mesh are connected to a pulley cable at the window edge and the mesh is formed by zig zagging the cable. The cable is connected to a spring loaded winder on an inertial reel that locks with sudden deceleration. The mesh can be made with a louvre type design. In this case there is a flexible spiral cable type of control mechanism.
