Diaminonaphthalene of formula (I) is prepd. by reacting the corresponding dinitronaphthalene with H2 in the presence of noble metals of the Pt or Pd gp. as catalyst and opt. substd. aniline as solvent. (I) is a known dyestuffs intermediate and is obtained in good yields by this hydrogenation process.
