PURPOSE:To improve efficiency with simple control and to perform a rapid information exchange by providing a means for generating a calling indicating interruption signal in receiving a calling signal on a line in a modem connected to a public telephone line. CONSTITUTION:When a modem 12 receives a calling signal from other terminal 13 through a network control device NCU 11 and a public telephone line network (line) 10, a calling indicating interruption signal (CI interruption) is generated from the modem 12. When a processing device PC14 detects a CI interruption by a check of the CI interruption through a timer routine, it erects a CI interruption flag and displays 'existence of receipt' on a display device DP. Then, the receipt of the CI interruption thereafter is temporarily stopped and a job switch program JSWP is activated. By executing the program JSWP, processing of a job executing at present is temporarily interrupted, communication processing between the device 14 and the terminal 13 is performed and the efficient and rapid information exchange can be done with simple control.
