The tooth movements taking place during an orthodontic treatment under the metered mechanical forces operating on the stomatognathic system are determined by the metabolic performance of the tissue of the periodontium. In order to obtain greater tooth mobility, active substances influencing the metabolism and/or the structural properties of collagen, in particular collagenase-active proteases or protease mixtures and D-penicillamine as well as, in addition, lathyrogens, glucocorticoids and gestagens are administered locally. The resulting increased tooth mobility makes it possible to speed up orthodontic correction measures and eliminate occlusal dysbalances. Local administration in the region of the mandibular joint is able to assist elimination of disturbances of normal functional processes.
