A variety of embodiments of the present invention relate to a device and a method to provide a motion detection service in an electronic device. The electronic device comprises: a sensor module configured to detect at least one sensor data corresponding to a motion of the electronic device; a processor electrically connected to the sensor module; and a memory electrically connected to the processor. The memory allows, when executed, the processor to detect at least one piece of sensor data by using the sensor module, check if a motion pattern corresponding to the at least one piece of sensor data exists in the memory, and store instructions to generate the motion pattern based on at least part of the at least one piece of sensor data according to the existence of the motion pattern corresponding to the at least one piece of sensor data. Other embodiments are also possible.
