PURPOSE:To provide an easily operable weight-reduction treatment process. CONSTITUTION:A knit or woven fabric containing polyester fiber is subjected to weight-reduction treatment by hydrolyzing the polyester fiber with caustic soda. The process is characterized by the following steps (a) to (f). (a) A reaction vessel 10 containing prescribed amount of knit or woven fabric containing polyester fiber is charged with a proper amount of caustic soda. (b) The concentration of caustic soda in the reaction vessel 10 is measured and the measured value is set as the standard value (C0). (c) The reaction vessel 10 is charged with the necessary amount of caustic soda calculated from the weight of the polyester fiber in the knit or woven fabric and the target weight-reduction ratio. (d) The temperature in the reaction vessel 10 is raised to start the hydrolysis reaction. (e) When the concentration of the caustic soda in the reaction vessel 10 approaches the standard value (C0), the temperature in the reaction vessel 10 is lowered to an extent not to stop the hydrolysis reaction. (f) The hydrolysis reaction is stopped when the concentration of caustic soda in the reaction vessel reaches the standard value (C0). |
