PURPOSE:To provide a retracting type steering column for preventing the retracting of an upper jacket at malfunction while achieving the positive retracting of the upper jacket at vehicular head-on collision. CONSTITUTION:A piston 24 is placed at a vehicular rear position behind an explosive 29-housing casing 30. A first wire 25 for connecting the piston 24 to an upper jacket 27 is allowed for its length. The piston 24 is moved in the vehicular front direction by means of a second wire 45 for connecting the piston 24 to a lower jacket 38 in moving the lower jacket 38 in the vehicular rear direction. |
