Disclosed herein are a polymeric phosphorescent agent containing a structural unit represented by the following general formula (1): <CHEM> wherein M is a metal atom having a valence of 2 to 4, each of R<1> and R<2> is, independently, a monovalent substituent selected from a hydrogen atom, halogen atoms, alkyl groups and aryl groups, L is an organic ligand, each of m and n is, independently, an integer of 1 to 3, and p is an integer of 1 to 4, in its molecule and having a molecular weight of at least 500, production process thereof, and a luminescent composition containing such a compound and applied products thereof.
