1419067 Sheet forming UNILEVER Ltd 4 Dec 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 56148/71 Heading B5A A method of making a container having a stem portion, i.e. a portion smaller than the base on which the container stands, comprises forming a heat shrinkable preform 13 of, e.g. P.V.C., locating the preform on a mould 10 and pedestal 12, heating the preform to a shrinking temperature, and applying a negative pressure to the interior of the preform via, e.g. ducts 37, 38, to reshape the preform to conform to the mould and pedestal. The preform is made from, e.g. a thermosetting plastics by injection, and remains within the stem of the finished container. In the embodiment the moulds are joined to form endless chains driven by wheels 2, and 3, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown, which pass through a heating tunnel 14, and a cooling tunnel 15. The pedestals are located on the ducts 35 before the preforms are placed in position. The preforms can be printed. In Fig. 8, not shown, the pedestals are fixed in the preforms before they are located on the moulds. |
