The safety fixing consists of a spring steel base plate (3) secured to the ski by a screw (14). The base plate (3) has two lugs (4) provided with horizontally elongated holes (5) through which the transverse pin (6) is fitted. The retaining member (2) pivots on the transverse pin (6) and is pushed to the right to clamp the ski sole plate (1) by the action of the torsion spring (12). Under a horizontal shock load the resistance of the torsion spring (12) is overcome and the ski is released. Under a vertical shock load the base plate (3) deflects upwards to release the ski. The magnitude of the restraining forces can be adjusted by the screw (8).
