Electronic scoring device for fencing sport - records only hits made by striking body of opponent by using AC generator connected to floor via resistor and diodes

The rapiers used in fencing have spring loaded switches (1) fitted to the tips of the blades. When one of the contestants strikes the waistcoat of his opponent the button (3) is depressed and the contacts of the switch are opened, an indicator in the circuit connected to the switch shows that a point has been scored. In order to prevent a false indication when the switch (1) is accidentally actuated by being pressed against the floor, an addition to the circuit includesa generator which generates an alternating current and is connected to the floor through a resistance and two pairs of diodes in series. This circuit ensures that the voltage generated by the rapier striking the floor is insufficient to actuate the score indicator.
