Polishing of decorative noble metal coatings on ceramics - by blasting with glass pellets mixed with organic material

Layers of noble metals or their alloys or ceramic prods. of silicate or oxide materials, e.g. flue china or crockery, are polished by use of glass powder or pref. pellets of 0.01-0.2 mm dia., which are mixed with a water-swelling but insoluble material, e.g. wood flour, cotton linters, cellulose, and their derivs., with particle size 2 mm max. and in amt. of 10-25 wt.%. Glass residues left on the surface, which cause scratching of the noble metal and other glazed decoration opt. present during packing and transport, are eliminated. Flow of the glass powder and/or pellets to the spray nozzles is improved, esp. at high humidities.
