The tool is actuated by a hand lever (16) or two way ram, enabling a single operative to make a sealed (21) spigot (22) and socket (20) joint between two pipes (5, 5) of relatively light material. In the prim. form the tool uses two jaws (1, 1a) of an assymetric 'U' section, secured to the conjunctive pipe ends by chains (4, 4a), and of a nominal inverted 'V' shape in longitudinal profile. The socket jaw (1a) is pinned to the end of a second order cranked hand lever (16), and a pin jointed (P1, P2) tie bar (19) extends between the lever elbow and the spigot jaw (1). Reciprocal pivoting lever movements (f1, f5) draw the spigot (22) into the socket (20), the movement (f1) away from the tie (19) constituting the active stroke. The assymetric nature of the transverse jaw sections enable them to rock and slide with reciprocal lever movements and adjust their placements on the pipes.
|
