The invention relates to a coil former (3) consisting of insulating material and having a winding core (33) which is bounded in the axial direction by in each case one end flange (31; 32) and having connecting parts (4; 5), which are held on one end flange (31), for the external connecting leads (6; 7) having in each case at least one contact end (41; 51) which projects out of the end flange plane, is to be connected in each case to the winding start (21) or to the winding end (22) of the coil (2) and is subsequently to be laid around in the end flange plane; in order to make contact in a simplified manner in terms of production and assembly engineering between the winding ends on the one hand and the external connecting leads on the other hand, with an installation space that is as small as possible, it is proposed according to the invention that the external connecting leads (6; 7) be laid in lead channels (34; 35) in the one end flange (31) such that they are relieved of stress with respect to one contact end (41; 51), and are permanently connected to said contact end (41; 51) with their stripped end (61; 71). A suitable use is especially for stator exciter coils in small synchronous motors. <IMAGE>
