A composter for garden waste or domestic refuse consists of substantially plate-shaped individual elements which can be assembled in situ to form a container, having a lid (14), a laterally arranged aperture for compost removal and a grid for supporting the waste above the bottom of the composter, the plate-shaped elements (4, 5, 6) being capable of being assembled to form a box, in a one-piece design of the side wall (4) and rear wall (5), with a three-piece front wall (6) whose central plate (7) serves as a passage door for compost removal, with a multi-piece roof (12, 13) whose central part (13) with its section facing the door (7) is mounted to be pivotable upwards as a lid, so that, with the door (7) and lid (14) open, a diagonal through-opening exists, and the wall plates (4, 5, 6) being erectable on frame bars (1) which are locked into each other in each case at two ends, these furthermore serving to support first the grid and secondly a collecting container, situated below the grid, for the liquid compost. <IMAGE>
