PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new compound having excellent saccharide hydrolase-inhibiting activity and useful as anti-obestic agents, antidiabetic agents, etc. CONSTITUTION: This compound is expressed by a 5,6,7,8-therahydro-imidazo[1,2- a]pyridine compound in formula I to formula III, etc., and has the following physicochemical properties. The compound of formula I: property: solid; melting point: up to 80 deg.C; [α]D, +29.2 deg. (c 1.6, CH3 OH), etc. The compound of formula II: property, colorless solid; melting point, 169-174 deg.C; [α]D, -8.0 deg. (c 0.97, CH3 OH), etc. The compound of formula III: property, solid; melting point; up to 80 deg.C; [α]D, +25.3 deg. (c 1.8, CH3 OH), etc. The compound of formula IV: property; colorless solid; melting point, 111-114 deg.C; [α]D, -36.2 deg. (c 1.01, CH3 OH), etc. Furthermore, the compound in formula I to formula IV can be synthesized by using an L-ribose or an L-xylose derivative as starting raw material.
