The declutching mechanism for a driven carriage has end supports (1) for a platform (3) suspended below the carriage and carrying drive wheel assemblies (4). A cam mechanism (2) between the platform and each support (1) controls vertical movement of the platform. The cam mechanisms can be locked in two positions corresponding to a lower clutched position in which the drive assemblies (4) drive the carriage and an upper declutched position in which the drive assemblies do not drive the carriage, locking and unlocking being controlled by a rotary shaft (36) operated at e.g. the ends of carriage tracks.
