PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress skew and the reduction in signal output (RF output) in a magnetic recording medium having <=20μm recording track width. SOLUTION: In a magnetic recording medium having <=20μm recording track width as a magnetic recording medium for magnetic recording and reproduction by a helical scanning system, thermal deformation at 60 deg.C set temp. by thermomechanical analysis is regulated to 0 to +0.05% in the longitudinal direction of the recording track and 0 to +0.1% in the transverse direction of the recording track.
