Concrete walls are rendered impervious to fluids esp. moisture by depositing a 1-30 mm thick layer of bitumen/elastomer adhesive, sticking a synthetic plastic film over the whole surface with heating and protecting the film against mechanical damage by depositing a further 1-10 mm thick layer of elastic matl. The elastomer adhesive is based on natural or synthetic rubber. The plastic film is pref. of PVC, butyl rubber or chlorosulphonated polyethylene. For sealing water pipes and channels, pitshafts, settling tanks, swimming pools. The adhesive can be laid straight on to rock or rough concrete surfaces, the film bonds readily to the partially filled, smoothed-over roughnesses without splits or faults. Wet base-rock or concrete can be so treated without danger of failure.
|
