Cover for crew access hatch of armoured vehicle - has weight counterbalanced by two parallel torsion bar springs

The crew access hatch of an armoured vehicle, in particular a tank, is provided with a hinged cover (1) which is protected by armour (2). The weight of the cover and its protective armour (2) is counter-balanced by a spring formed by two torsion bars (5.1,5.2). One end of the first torsion bar (5.1) is attached to the cover whilst its other end is fixed to one end of an arm (7). The other end of this arm is fixed to one end of the second torsion bar (5.2) which has its other end fixed to the vehicle. USE - Tanks and fighting vehicles.
