The stress to which hair is subjected during a permanent waving treatment and the effects on the properties of the hair after such a treatment are considerably reduced if there is added to the waving agent and/or the intermediate treatment agent an active substance combination containing: a physiologically compatible salt (A) consisting of the anion of an inorganic or organic acid and a divalent cation or Al<3+>, and a vitamin or vitamin-derivative (B), selected from the group comprising vitamin C, vitamin B5 and their derivatives.
