FIELD: production of aluminum. SUBSTANCE: cathode unit includes enclosure, coal hearth blocks, current-leading bars and refractory plates positioned under hearth blocks. Hearth blocks are solid over cross-section. Layer of current-conducting porous material and metal spacer made fast to current-leading bars are placed under hearth blocks or on their face side. Metal spacer is sectional made of separate strips. EFFECT: such design of electrolyzer prolongs its service life and decreases labor input for its manufacture and assembly. 1 cl, 3 dwg
