PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a multi-aspect display without using a time-base conversion circuit by driving an image plane by a driving method 1 in an effective area, and driving the upper and lower parts of the image plane outside of the effective area at the same time by a driving method 2. SOLUTION: Odd-numbered and even-numbered source wiring of a liquid crystal panel supply signals differing in the polarity from each other. In an effective area of an image signal, an image is displayed without flicker in the central part by a driving method 1. In an ineffective area 8 outside of the effective area, where an image plane is displayed in black without flicker, the upper and lower parts of the image plane are scanned at the same time by a driving method 2. In the driving method 1, the source and gate signals are inverted in polarity at every one frame period. In the driving method 2, the source signal is inverted in polarity at one frame period and also one line period. When the lower area of the image plane of the present frame 15 is scanned, the upper area of the image plane of the following frame 16 is also scanned at the same time.
