PURPOSE:To provide the pattern recognizing method setting the approximate straight line for the outline of an object. CONSTITUTION:The boundary point between an object and background is detected 1 in the area determined in advance in a picture photographing the object. The area is divided into plural areas 2 in one direction. An approximate straight line 3 of the boundary point is obtained using method of least squares in one of the divided areas. From this approximate straight line 3, the boundary point more than the preliminarily determined standard distance is removed 6 as a noise point, and an approximate straight line 7 is obtained by the remaining boundary point. The dispersion of the boundary points in the area other than the approximate straight line in the area is turned to be the estimate in the area, the straight line in the area having the estimate closest to the reference value determined in advance is detected, the approximate straight line is turned to the one preliminarily determined in the area, and the boundary point higher than the preliminarily determined reference distance is deleted, and the approximate straight line is obtained from the remaining boundary point using the method of least squares. |
