Process for manufacturing two-layer textile elements with elastic gathering (shirring)

The process is embodied in the production preferably of coverings for the interior upholstery of coffins in which there is a textile layer of sateen, satin or the like 1 and a second layer 2 of imitation leather, which are fastened together with the interposition of elastic cords 6 which are parallel and suitably distanced and which will give rise to gathering in the final arrangement. The process is based on the use of continuous strips 1 and 2 of the said textile elements which meet at a point together with the rubber cords 6 supplied by reels 5 equipped with braking means which give rise to an elastic lengthening of said cords 6 when the latter are pulled at the same time as the textile strips 1 and 2, said rubber cords 6 being impregnated with a quick-dry pressure contact adhesive supplied by a tank 7 or any other impregnating mechanism before reaching the region where they meet the textile strips 1 and 2, said region where they meet being the location for pressure rollers 8 which determine the automatic drying of the adhesive and the subsequent fastening between the two strips 1 and 2 by means of the stretched rubber cords 6, subsequent elastic recovery of which will give rise to the final gathering of the overall two-layer textile element. <IMAGE>
