PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for certificating printer driver in which a user can decide whether combination of a printer driver and a printer is genuine or not by providing means for receiving and interpreting a printer recognition command and a character code data generated from a printer driver. SOLUTION: At the time of starting print operation, a printer driver 1 generates a printer recognition command from a printer recognition command generating means 2 and transmits the command to a printer 3. Upon receiving the printer recognition command, the printer neglects a character data by a predetermined number of bites. Other printers perform erroneous printing because they have not the function for neglecting the printer recognition command, and the character data. Consequently, a user can decide whether combination of the printer driver and the printer is genuine or not and distribution of irregular printer driver can be prevented.
