[Class 123 (ii)] Thimble or loop-tube steam boilers or water heaters heated by exhaust gases from Diesel engines, flue gases from any source, &c. and comprising a central water or steam and water space from which the tubes 2 extend outwardly into an annular gas space 3 have baffles 6 so arranged in an outer casing forming the gas space in relation to a gas inlet as to direct the gases in a gyratory path around it. They may divide the space into sections in series or in parallel in which case the sections may receive gases from separate sources. In the form shown having a tangential inlet at the top and a similar outlet at the bottom, the baffles divide the gas space into a series of superposed sections 7 of diminishing. size communicating through openings 8 bounded by inclined plates 9 extending between opposite ends of adjacent openings. Feed-water is in troduced through a pipe 13 and additional heating means such as coils or electric immersion heaters may be provided. |
