The invention concerns a method for obtaining novel biologically active substances of marine origin, the resulting biologically active substances and the compositions containing them. The method is characterised in that it consists in drying, and/or freeze-drying a plant of the Dictyolale family, then crushing it, followed by the depleting of the vegetable substance once or several times with an organic solvent selected among the group consisting of inferior alkanols, aliphatic ketones, alkanes, cycloalkanes, halogenated solvents, aromatic solvents, esters, ethers and the like, to obtain therefrom an organic extract of the plant; drying the organic extract by evaporation and purifying the dry organic extract by one or several steps of purification successively carried out by liquid/liquid exposure, by chromatography on low pressure or high pressure column, by high performance liquid chromatography, to obtain one or several active fractions of plants of the Dictyolale family showing anti-apoptosis activity by reducing the synthesis of proteins related to those of the BAX family. The biologically active substances are used for producing compositions or deposit formulations for preventing and/or treating diseases involving an increased synthesis of proteins related to those of the BAX family.
