Vulcanized rubber is reclaimed by disintegrating it and then grinding it in the presence of rubber latex containing between 1,5 and 5 per cent of alkali. For example, 10 to 20 parts of 75 per cent latex may be made alkaline and added to 90 to 80 parts of scrap. The grinding of the mass may take place in high friction rollers run at a temperature of 60 to 80 DEG C., or in a mixing trough in which the blades press the mixture strongly against the walls. 3 per cent of coconut or other vegetable oil may be added during the grinding. The water content of the mixture may be removed by the heating of the grinding rollers, or by drying of the treated mixture in thin layers. Specification 384,620 is referred to.
|
