An electrosurgical wand 102 comprising at least one fluid discharge aperture 200, 202 each provided with a return electrode 210, 212 therein, an aspiration aperture 204, and at least one active electrode 206, 208; each of the apertures connected to a fluid conduit 216, 218, 270 provided with the housing 106 of the wand 102. The fluid conduit 270 connected to the aspiration aperture 204 tapering from a first width Wa at the mouth of the conduit to a second internal width over a length L greater than or equal to two times the difference between the widths. In use, conductive fluid such as saline flows out of the fluid discharge apertures 200, 202 and contacts both the active 206, 208 and return electrodes 210, 212. Electrical energy is then applied between the electrodes to form plasma which molecularly disassociates strips of tissue or bio-film from a wound (Fig 5). |
