Provided are a nucleic acid extraction apparatus and method of operation thereof, the apparatus comprising: at least one cyclically movable annular structure (12), on which is provided a plurality of cuvette positions spaced at intervals and used for holding reaction vessels (18a), and along the path on which the cuvette positions cyclically move are distributed at least one operating position used for executing a pipetting operation and at least one operating position for injection; at least one pipetting mechanism (16) used for executing a pipetting operation and arranged along the annular structure (12); at least one injection mechanism (17) used for executing an injection operation and arranged along the annular structure (12); a drive mechanism used for driving the motion of the reaction vessel (18), located on the annular structure (12), in a path of cyclical motion along the annular structure (12). A cyclically movable annular structure (12) is used and pipetting and injection operations can be carried out on same, and the cuvette positions are arranged spaced apart, such that when performing nucleic acid extraction, the reaction vessels (18a) can be processed one at a time, reducing the parallel operations between different tests and effectively solving the problem of cross-contamination between tests.
