The bearing element (10) has housing portion (12) whose open side is closed by a cover (14). The cover is sectioned with an open-pore of a reinforcement mat (22) in which casting compound (20) is formed. The casting compound is cured in the flat surface which is faced with the bearing surface (30) of gas bearing (1). The bearing surface is provided with several gas outflow nozzles (26') that are passed through the micro-holes (26) formed in the cover for supplying compressed gas to gas outflow nozzles through channels (18') formed under the cover. An independent claim is included for method for manufacturing gas pressure bearing element.
