PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thiazolidinedione derivative crystal excellent in the prevention and therapeutic action against diseases caused by insulin resistance, and to provide a production method of the crystal with a high purity. SOLUTION: In the production method, 4-[(2,4-dioxothiazolidin-5-yl)methyl]phenoxyacetic acid represented by the first formula is converted into a compound represented by the general formula (I) (wherein X is a halogen atom) and then reacted with a compound represented by the general formula (II) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, and R<SP>4</SP>are each a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl, 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, benzyloxy, acetoxy, or trifluoromethyl group, or a halogen atom; R<SP>5</SP>is a 1-6C alkyl group; and R<SP>6</SP>is a protective group of an amino group), to produce a compound represented by the general formula (III), which is then cyclized to give a final product, i. e. a compound represented by the general formula (A), or its salt.
