[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] Strip metal e.g. steel is uncoiled from a roll 10, passed through a coating machine 11 for coating it with a layer of backing metal, cooled by a spray 13, passed through straightening rolls 15, and finally the backing surface is planed by being passed under tension through an aperture 19 in a plate 16 which is fitted with a broad cutter 27 adjustably mounted with respect to a roller 22 over which the strip is led prior to being wound up on a roller 17. The hard cutter 27 is mounted in a slide 26 which can be adjusted vertically by means of a pair of screws 32 fitted with scales 33 coacting with fixed pointers and the slide after exact adjustment is secured in position by screws 30, 31, Fig. 3, (not shown). The roller 22 is held in position by screws 23 engaging grooves at each end of the roller. |
