[Class 40 (v)] The semi-conducting element and its cooperating cats whisker in a crystal contact device are each supported by and electrically connected to an associated metal wire, the whole being hermetically sealed in a case of plastic material, through which the supporting wires project. In Fig. 1 a semi-conducting crystalline element 1 such as silicon, is soldered to a nickel plate 2 which is welded to a nickel wire 3. The whisker 4, which may be tungsten, is welded to a nickel wire 5. The whole is then surrounded by a casing 6 of plastic material by an injection or other moulding process. Alternatively, the crystal 1 and whisker 4 may be surrounded by a hollow cylinder of insulating material before the casing of plastic material is applied. |
