PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately read a code even when dirt is stuck to a code itself attached to the package of merchandise or the like or illumination light is projected on the code in a photographic image in an overlapping manner.SOLUTION: The code reading device includes: an area extraction section 2 for dividing the photographic image of a bar code into a plurality of horizontal areas, and for extracting a readable area from each of the horizontal areas; and an area connection section 4 for restoring a whole bar code by connecting the plurality of extracted areas. Even when any unreadable place is generated in a part of the bar code, a plurality of readable areas are partially extracted, and those areas are connected such that the bar code readable as a whole is restored. Thus, it is possible to accurately read even a bar code partially having dirt or a projection of illumination light. |
