发明名称 METAL EFFECT PIGMENT WITH ADDITIVE
摘要
#CMT# #/CMT# Metal effect pigment with additive, which: is at least partially applied to the metallic effect pigment; and includes at least one carboxylic acid with at least 4C, as structure units and at least one polyglycolether, where the carboxylic acid and polyglycol are covalently linked together, is claimed. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is included for the metal effect pigment comprising (a) pulverizing metal particle of metal effect pigment in the presence of additive, and grinding media and optionally a fluid phase; (b) separating the product obtained in step (a); and (c) optionally compacting separated product in step (b). #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The metal effect pigment is useful for manufacturing coating composition, preferably lacquer, coatings, plastics, cosmetic formulations and printing inks (claimed) (preferably gravure-, flexographic- or screen printing inks). The metal effect pigment is useful for foil material, preferably for flexible packaging, shrink films, laminates (e.g. cardboard), packagings, labels and in-mold decoration films. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The metal effect pigment exhibits improved: optical properties such as high gloss; opacity; mechanical stability; and storage stability. The metal effect pigment is prepared in a simple, economical and ecofriendly manner. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Components: The carboxylic acid with polyglycol ether is covalently linked together via an ester bond or an amide bond. The carboxylic acid is at least a polycarboxylic acid with 2-8 carboxylic acid groups. The carboxylic acid is optionally saturated. The polycarboxylic acid is a dimerized, trimerized or tetramerized fatty acid or mixture of these forms. The polycarboxylic acid contains 10-96C, preferably 12-76C. The polyglycol ether comprises a group of formula (R 1>-X-(R 2>-O) y-(R 3>-O) z-(R 4>-O) k-). The ratio of the number of ether unit (y+z+k) on the number of carbon atoms of the carboxylic acid or polycarboxylic acid and optionally hydrocarbon radicals of the aliphatic or araliphatic residue R 1>and the aliphatic residue R is 0.1-4. The carboxylic acid is esterified partially or completely. The carboxylic acid is partially esterified, and the additive exhibits an acid number of 5-140 mg potassium hydroxide/g additive. The carboxylic acid is present partially or completely as carboxylic acid salt. The metal effect pigment is present in compacted form, preferably as granules, pellets, tablets, briquettes, pipsqueak or paste. R 2>-O-, R 3>-O-, R 4>-O- : polyether units can be ordered statistically, alternatively or as block copolymers; X : O, S, (CO)O or NR1x; R1x : H or 1-20C aliphatic residue; R 1>aliphatic residue or 1-30C araliphatic or aromatic organic residue; R 2>-R 4>aliphatic organic residue or 1-12C araliphatic or aromatic organic residue; and y, z, k : 0-200, with proviso that y+z+k is 2-600. Preferred Process: The step (a) is carried out in a ball mill in the presence of grinding media, preferably spherical grinding media. The compacting step is carried out by granulating, pelletizing, tabletting, briquetting, filtering, pressing and/or extruding. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Pripol 1009(RTM: Hydrogenated 36C-dimeric acid) (50 g) and methoxypolyethylene glycol 750 (89 g) were heated to 80[deg] C under nitrogen inert gas. Then p-toluenesulfonic acid (0.8 g) was added and heated to 180[deg] C. Resulting reaction water was removed with a water separator to give additive (A) having acid number of 24 mg potassium hydroxide/g, a degree of esterification of 67%, and the ratio of carbon atoms to ether unit of 0.3. Atomized aluminum fine powder (100 g) with the grain size distribution parameters (mean particle size (d 50) of 2.2 mu m, d 10of 1.1 mu m and d 90of 3.6 mu m), isopropyl acetate (440 g) and (A) (8 g) were pulverized with steel balls having diameter of 1.8 mm (4.5 kg) for 12 hours at 50 revolutions per minute (rpm). The mixture was again pulverized for 13 hours long at 24 rpm. The mixture was worked up to give aluminum effect pigment.
