PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter which hardly causes over collection because pressure loss is low upon ordinary use and the pressure loss causes rapid increase when PM is accumulated to a certain extent or more, and does not cause the occurrence of crack or erosion on a honeycomb filter with regeneration.SOLUTION: A honeycomb filter is characterized in that an exhaust gas introduction cell is adjacent to the whole of circumference of exhaust gas discharge cells 11, 11A across a porous cell partition wall, the exhaust gas introduction cell comprises two kinds of first exhaust gas introduction cells 12, 12A and a second exhaust gas introduction cell 14 of which a cross-section area of a cross-section in the vertical direction with respect to the longitudinal direction of the cell is larger than that of the first exhaust gas introduction cell, and is formed such that a cross-section area of a cross-section in the vertical direction with respect to the longitudinal direction of a cell of an exhaust gas discharge cell is equal to or larger than a cross-section in the vertical direction with respect to the longitudinal direction of a cell of the second exhaust gas introduction cell, and the cross-section area of the cross-section in the vertical direction with respect to the longitudinal direction of the cell of the first exhaust gas introduction cell is 0.7 mmor less. |
