1341792 Collapsible steering column USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL 19 Jan 1972 [22 Jan 1971] 2655/72 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] A disengageable mechanism for the connection of two shafts 5, 6, used for example in a collapsible steering column for motor vehicles, comprises two flanges 1, 2 rigidly connected to the shafts 5, 6 and formed of hubs 3, 4 and pairs of arms 13, 14 and 15, 16, the arms of each pair being disposed at an angle between 90 and 180 degrees to one another and being bolted to a ring-shaped elastic connected member 7. The bolts (not shown) extend through holes 12 in the connecting member 7 and through holes 17 in the flanges 1, 2. As shown, the connecting member 7 is composed of rubber plates 8 interposed between textile plates 9. Alternatively (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), the connecting member 7 comprises annular rubber plates between which are inserted pairs of segments made from metal sheet, cuts in the segments fitting the connecting bolts closely without peripheral clearance. The hubs 3, 4 of the flanges are provided with bevelled surfaces 18 and in the event of an axial impact these bevelled surfaces bear on one another forcing the flanges 1, 2 away from each other and shearing the connecting member 7. This continues until the member 7 is ruptured, thus breaking the mechanical connection between the shafts 5, 6. |
