Device permitting the adjustment of the spacing between two bannister sections (2) of a spiral staircase, the said bannister comprising one bannister section per step (1). It comprises connecting means (3) mounted between two adjacent bannister sections (2), each end of the said connectors (3) being cut obliquely at a constant angle whatever the diameter of the staircase. The length of the connectors is determined by the desired positioning of the steps. <IMAGE>
