<p>An interphalangeal joint implant includes a proximal phalanx component Fig 3A the stem 114, 116 of which is to be inserted into a bore drilled from the cut distal end of the proximal phalanx and a distal phalanx component Fig 3B the stem 130 of which is to be inserted into a bore drilled from the cut proximal end of the distal phalanx. After the components have been inserted into the respective bones, they are joined together with the bases 118, 128 of the respective components face to face, the components being held together at a required fixed angle by complementary locking structures such as arms 132 projecting from the base of one component into a bore 124 in the other component, with detents 134 on the ends of the arms being snap captured within apertures 122 in the wall of the bore of the other component, and projections 120 being captured in the holes 136. The engaged locking structures prevent movement between the base plates in all directions. The implant is useful for both toes and fingers.</p> |
