The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for displaying characters on a mobile terminal and, specifically, to a method and an apparatus for displaying characters inputted on a keypad when the characters are inputted. The present invention comprises the steps of displaying a display window with the characters by accumulating the inputted characters and an input window displaying the keypad on a screen in a document writing mode; displaying a document with the characters inputted on the display window when the characters are inputted; and displaying the characters with a set display unit from the input characters and the keypad on the input window when the characters are inputted. The mobile terminal according to various embodiments of the present invention may display characters inputted on the keypad when the characters are inputted using the keypad and enables a user to see characters currently written when the user inputs the characters while only looking at a keyboard. Therefore, the user may confirm inputted characters when the user of the mobile terminal inputs the characters while looking at the keypad the keypad. The user may correct the characters immediately by enabling the character display apparatus to warn the user against typing errors when typing errors are generated.
