PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal that enables easy, correct inspection of the presence/absence of leakage even after service.SOLUTION: A mechanical seal 1 air-tightly holds a rotary shaft 3 so that the shaft 3 is rotatable. The mechanical seal 1 comprises: a cylindrical mechanical seal body 4; and a mechanical seal mechanism 10 provided in the mechanical seal body 4. The mechanical seal body 4 has, on one opening side thereof, a first member 5 that air-tightly supports one side of the rotary shaft 3 so that it is rotatable and that has a first hole 34 communicating with an empty space between one opening edge part of the mechanical seal body 4 and the rotary shaft. The mechanical seal body 4 has, on the other opening side thereof, a second member 6 that air-tightly supports the other side of the rotary shaft 3 so that it is rotatable and that has a second hole 39 communicating with an empty space between the other opening edge part of the mechanical seal body 4 and the rotary shaft 3. |
