PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an photoacoustic puncture needle whose position can be confirmed without hindering observation of a target on an photoacoustic image. SOLUTION: The puncture needle 15 includes, for example, a light-scattering material coated part 51 coated with a light-scattering material, as a light scattering part. The light-scattering material scatters light, thereby lowering the signal strength of an photoacoustic signal generated in the puncture needle 15. The puncture needle 15 may include as a light absorbing part non-coated parts 52 not coated with a light-scattering material. The non-coated parts 52 are provided on, for example, a tip of the puncture needle 15.
