[Class 111] In a settling-tank having a submerged horizontal feed pipe p extending from the side of the tank towards the centre and rotary scrapers d for moving settled matter to a central outlet b, the pipe p has a vertical elbow f, directed upwards or downwards and delivering the liquid against a deflector h, which spreads the flow outwards away from the central zone of the tank. The shaft i of the scrapers passes centrally through the elbow, and, as shown, the deflector is mounted on the shaft. The deflector may be flat, conical, bell-shaped or saucer-shaped.
