PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sugars from cellulosic raw materials with efficiency and high productivity.SOLUTION: A method for producing sugars comprises the steps of: (1) pulverizing cellulosic raw materials in the presence of a basic compound under conditions that the water content of the cellulosic material is not more than 40 mass% (dry matter) to obtain a pulverized cellulosic product; (2) saccharifying the pulverized cellulosic product by using an enzyme combination containingβ-xylosidase 0.01 mass% or more and not more than 30 mass% of the total protein mass. |
