A stretchable film, forming the base of a surgical bandage, consists of polymerized methyl methacrylate mixed with polyvinyl chloride. Both components may have single or mixed plasticisers. In an example, the polymerized methyl methacrylate is plasticised with methyl glycol phthalate in the presence of acetone. The polyvinyl chloride is plasticised with tricresyl phosphate at an elevated temperature. The two substances are mixed and formed into a film which is coated. The polymerized methyl methacrylate may contain a proportion of polystyrene. Specifications 554,186 and 554,296, [both in Group VIII], are referred to. |
