PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic carrier allowing a resin film layer to have excellent anti-abrasion properties, image defects due to carrier deposition and charge leakage to be prevented, and a good image to be stably obtained for a long period of time. SOLUTION: A magnetic carrier has a resin coating layer containing at least a resin and a titanium oxide fine particle on a magnetic carrier core surface, where the titanium oxide fine particle is obtained by adding alkali to an aqueous titanium tetrachloride solution to precipitate titanium hydroxide, heating the precipitated titanium hydroxide in an aqueous medium to produce titania in a slurry state, taking the produced titania in a slurry state out of the aqueous medium and subjecting it to surface-treatment with an alkoxysilane compound without drying, and then by heating and drying, and where the number average particle diameter (D<SB POS="POST">1</SB>) of a primary particle of the titanium oxide fine particle is 5 nm or more and 40 nm or less.
