The sound absorber (1) has an exhaust pipe (3) guided by a housing (2), and a receiving space (4) into which a damping material (5) is provided. The receiving space is arranged between an outer surface of the exhaust pipe and inner side of the housing. Radially directed spacing ribs (6) are arranged at the inner side of the housing to hold the damping material at certain distance to the inner side of the housing and partially made of a refractory material. A reinforcement core is covered by a plastic material. The refractory material of the spacing ribs is a glass fiber.
